Our Tinkd members have been collaborating with our makerspace coordinators to experiment with new materials and laser cutter settings and we have had some vey exciting results!
We have discovered that paua, jade and other stones can be engraved with the laser (very carefully).
Fabric is also being tested out and appears to be working with some degree of success. Stiff cotton has had the best result so far.
Stamp making has been achieved through engraving rubber! Let us know if you’d like to give this a go.
We have also been playing around with cutting paper and card and are looking forward to doing much more detailed patterns that would be very difficult without the assistance of a laser!
If you have an idea for a new material you would like to try out in the laser cutter or a new method of using our equipment please let us know and our coordinators can assist you. Please keep in mind that the laser cutter can be a very dangerous machine, and so using it in any way other than what you have been instructed needs to be discussed and monitored.
